The Uzi has been sold to more military and police markets than any other submachine gun ever made in the period of the 1960s through the 1980s. The weapon is constructed primarily from stamped sheet metal, making it less expensive per unit to manufacture. With relatively few moving parts, the Uzi is easy to strip for maintenance or repair. The protruding vertical magazine however, makes it awkward to fire when prone.
